The Campaign Manager of the NPP, LaminCham, has strongly advised the people of Kiang not to allow themselves to be exploited by the opposition.
CM Cham, who himself is a native of Kiang, called on his compatriots to throw their full weight behind President Adama Barrow for national development.
“Do not allow the opposition to use you for no tangible benefit. President Barrow is the president of all Gambians and his development projects are spread all over the country. I would, therefore, urge you to rally behind the President for limitless national development,” he stressed as he addressed a political meeting in Kiang Kolior over the weekend.
“What I want to tell the people of Kolior is that let’s change the course that we’ve taken since 1996. Let’s change our old ways of doing things and adopt new ways. Being an opposition cannot bring you anything meaningful. It can retard a person. Kolior has been a UDP stronghold since 1996 and what has Koliorgained for 29 years now,” CM Cham stated. He continued: “When we arrived in Kolior, the first request that the people made was for the construction of the road linking Kolior and Joomaar but can UDP construct that road for you? Neither UDP nor any other opposition political party can deliver the road. The only person, who can do that, is President Barrow because he’s the one in charge of the national coffers. He can choose whether to construct a road for you or not. Kiangkas, let’s reflect on the past. If you don’t know the destination you’re heading to, the most ideal thing is to return and find a new direction. The group [UDP] that you owe your loyalty to is not a group that can lead. I want to tell you that NPP’s rule will go beyond President Barrow. If you’re waiting for the UDP to rule, you will never witness that in your entire life.”
The NPP chief mobilizer asserted that President Barrow’s successor is not among the current crop of opposition politicians.
“All those, who expressed their intention to succeed Adama, will never succeed him. And I can tell you with certainty that whenever Adamaretires, he will be succeeded by an NPP member. The people of Kolior and Kiang, let’s embrace Adama Barrow and his government so that he can provide us with whatever we demand for development,” he added.
The NPP campaign manager promised the people of Kolior that the village would be electrified before the end of the year and that the road linking it to Badala would be constructed.
“Adama Barrow doesn’t hate anyone in this country. He wishes peace for every Gambian because he always says he is not interested in anything other than leaving behind an enviable legacy so that people can talk about the good things that he brought to Gambians. Violence cannot bring development. Violence engenders retardation in a country. Development comes to where there is peace and love. There is love and unity in the NPP and with peace and love, development can be assured,” CM Cham pointed out.
