The UDP’s mouthpiece for Bundunka-KundaSulayman Dampha has maintained that no serious government brags about opponents joining its ranks, adding that the preoccupation of every serious government is national development.
“The NPP Campaign Manager, Mr. Lamin Cham, has been pounding his chest that people are cross-carpeting to the NPP and not only him but all the NPP militants have been beating their chests about people cross-carpeting to the NPP. They should not brag about this. It’s a shame. If this government is serious and if NPP indeed won the 2021 elections, their main priority should be development,” Dampha told The Voice in an interview on Wednesday.
He hinted that it’s contradictory for the NPP to brag about the cross-carpeting of UDP militants when it claimed to have won 400,000 of the votes cast in the last polls.
“If the NPP truly won in 2021 with 400,000 votes and UDP lost with 200,000 votes, then why are they still bragging about UDP militants joining their party, and always eager to announce it for publicity? This government needs to focus on development, especially upgrading the health sector. They should providehealth facilities across the country to eliminate the growing need for overseas treatment,” Mr. Damphastated.
He claimed that the over one million Dalasi that the NPP used to buy new converts could be plowed to empower the youth through skills development.
“They could have used that money to empower the youth with employable skills, establish companies tocreate job opportunities for youth, and invest ineducation. We do not see this government doing or saying anything serious aside from bragging aboutpeople cross-carpeting from one political party to theNPP. This is inconsequential. What is important is to have the nation at heart and put development first,” the UDP’s Bundung PRO stated.
He accused the agriculture minister of dereliction of duty, saying he [Dr. Demba Sabally] focuses too much on politics. This, he explained, has been responsible for all the setbacks in the agriculture sector under Dr. Sabally’s watch.
“I want all the youth to turn their back on this government, whose job is to spread information on people cross-carpeting to their party and wasting our resources on individuals. Tackling inflation, deportation, and suffering of the masses should be the priority of this government,” said Dampha.
He stated that the NPP is not desirous of Gambia’s progress and prosperity.
“If it is true that all these people are cross-carpeting, the 2026 elections will tell. NPP does not have the interest of the country and those cross-carpeting do nothave the interest of the country at heart as well,” heasserted.
