The Deputy Director of The Gambia First, Muhammad Adama Jallow, has said the NGO has been established to wage war against tribalism and to promote nationalism.
The Gambia First was established last month with the Motto “No to Tribalism”.
Deputy director Jallow explained to The Voice in an interview that his organization will be invested in the propagation of the gospel of patriotism and nationalism. He said that the organization will work towards ensuring that no tribe in The Gambia is marginalized or undermined in any way, adding that the NGO will be also invested in nurturing the relations between the tribes of the country.
“If we put the interest of the country first, then I am sure we will achieve our goals as a country. We think the government should play a greater role in ensuring that all tribes feel part and parcel of the nation,” he pointed out.
He explained that Gambia First is conscious of the need to discuss not only the negative impacts of tribalism on a country’s development but would be also engaged in highlighting the importance of the peaceful coexistence of citizens.
“We are looking forward to partnering with the government and other NGOs. We cannot do it alone because fighting tribalism is a collective responsibility,” added Jallow.
Muhammed Saho of Gambia First spoke about the important roles that the NGO can play in eliminating tribalism in The Gambia.
“As an organization, we want to see the interest of the country put first because we cannot progress if we are divided on tribal and ethnic lines,” Mr. Saho stressed.
Gambia First’s Head of the Media Abdoulie Fatty pointed out that tribalism is inimical to national cohesion.
“Tribalism is currently deeply-rooted in the country, which is affecting our peace. As youths, this is why we deemed it necessary to establish this organization to eradicate the vice totally,” Fatty asserted. He added: “It is certain that everything has a challenge but as an organisation, we are ready to face all the difficulties together
