PSC Gets New Chairman

The Government of The Gambia has appointed Mr. Baboucarr A. Suwareh as the new chairman of the Public Service Commission (PSC), replacing Mr. Lamin Samateh, who went on retirement after servingin the position for six years. 

Mr. Suwareh served as a PSC Commission member under the outgoing PSC Chairman for three years.

His appointment was last week confirmed to me at the Ministry of Public Service (MoPS) by the secretary to the Public Service Commission (PSC) Mr. AbdoulieJafunneh.

The outgoing PSC chairman was appointed by the Government of The Gambia as the Public Service Commission (PSC) Chairman on January 25, 2018.

Before his PSC appointment in 2018, the outgoing PSC chairman held key positions in the Public Service during the First Republic, which included Permanent Secretary Ministry of  Information and Tourism in 1984, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Local Government and Lands, Permanent Secretary Personnel Management Office (PMO), Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, International appointment with WHO offices based in Brazzaville and Harare, Zimbabwe and he retired at WHO at the end of 1998.

Mr. Baboucarr A. Suwareh was meanwhile appointed on January 31, 2024, as the new Public Service Commission (PSC) chairman. He is a retired educationist and served for 38 years in administrative roles at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE). Mr. Suwareh served as the Gambia’s deputy ambassador to China from 2016 to 2018.
