The High Commissioner and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Botswana, Her Excellency Fatoumatta Jahumpa Ceesay, has expressed the commitment to move the Gambia/Botswana relations to several notches higher for the benefit of the two countries.
The diplomat acknowledged the excellent relations between Banjul and Gabarone which, she highlighted, was characterized by “a firm commitment to the strict observance of human rights, democracy, and the rule of law”.
“These shared values made it possible for these relations to grow from strength to strength,” she added.
In presenting her credentials to the President of Botswana lately, Madam Jahumpa-Ceesay recalled the era when Gambia used to send her citizens to the University of Botswana, Lesotho, and Swaziland (UBLS) to read as the tiny, impoverished West African nation was yet to have its university.
“In the course of my tour of duty, Sir, I will draw inspiration from such arrangements to explore other potential areas in which Botswana and The Gambia could cooperate,” Excellency Jahumpa-Ceesay assured Botswanan President His Excellency Dr. MokgweetsiKeabetswe Masisi.
“It would be in order, therefore, to look into possibilities of entering technical and cultural agreements that would take to higher heights the already excellent relations that have always existed between our two countries.
“In conclusion, Your Excellency, as I embark on this historic journey, I am strengthened in my conviction that I can count on your personal support and that of your Government in order to achieve our common goal of strengthening even further our bilateral relations.”
