The Coalition of The Gambia Environment Organization (CGEO) recently conducted a daylong stakeholder consultative forum on the protection of Kotu Creek/Cycle Track as an Indigenous Community Conservation Area (ICCA) at BadalaPark Hotel, Manjai Kunda.
Speaking at the forum, the President of the Coalition of The Gambia Environment Organization (CGEO), Saikou Jankocommended the stakeholders for attending the forum.
Mr. Janko informed CGEO stakeholders that his organization was established two years ago to restore wetlands. He informed that his organization protected wetlands at Kotu Old cycle track while intervening at Nyambai Forest Park.
According to him, members of the Coalition of The Gambia Environment Organization (CGEO) are well experienced in environmental protection, thus CGEO is advocating to preservewetlands in the country.
He hailed West African Birds Study Association (WABSA) members under their executive director, Lamin Jobarteh for leading the process while also calling on Community Based Organizations (CBOs) in the country to join the CGEO crusade in protecting the environment.
He commended participants for their turn-out to the forum and as well as all the environmental organizations for rising against the distasteful development that took place at Kotu Old Cycle Track.
Mr. Jobateh advised various environmental activists to serve as watchdogs to their environment adding that environmental conservation involves the protection, preservation, and restoration of ecosystems and natural resources.
