The Director of Good Governance at the Ministry of Local Government and Lands, Mr. David Gomez, has commended the Brikama Area Council (BAC) for launching the West Coast Region (WCR) on a trajectory of development.
Speaking yesterday at a ceremony organized by BAC to distribute D14M to 28 wards in WCR, Mr. Gomez acknowledged: “My Ministry commends you [BAC] for this disbursement, which is going back to taxpayers of the region. This is a council, comprising young people, who are development-oriented. The credit will go to the council and we should be prepared to take the credit and not the other way around.”
He iterated his Ministry’s commitment to supporting BAC in realizing its development aspirations, adding that his ministry will keep an eye on the projects to ensure proper implementation.
“We are all in the equation and as a ministry, we will continue supporting the Council in all aspects of the development of the West Coast Region. Therefore, as an oversight institution, we will be keeping an eagle’s eye on the execution of these projects from the commencement to the end of the road,” he underscored.
Mr. Gomez further pointed out that Section 603(1) of the Local Government Act mandates local governments to bring development to their people, noting that the BAC is fulfilling that mandate or that part of the ACT.
He advised that the ward development projects be contracted to the right contractors not friends for effective implementation.
