NEW DEPUTY NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISER TAKES OFFICE

Colonel Omar Bojang of The Gambia Armed Forces has finally taken up his post at Office of National Security ( ONS) following his appointed by President Adama Barrow in  January 2024.  

Colonel Bojang’s appointment comes at a crucial time for the office as it strives to meet the dual responsibilities of coordinating the eight( 8) security institutions in the country as well as spearheading the ongoing security sector reform process. He is reported to be settling down quickly and is already getting down to work. 

Until his recent appointment, Colonel Bojang served in many capacities within The Gambia Armed Forces, including as Director of Training and Doctrine, Defence Headquarters, a position he occupied at several intervals. 

He also served as Director of Operations at the Defence Headquarters on a number of occasions as well as Commander of the Gambia Armed Forces Quick Reaction Forces, Operations Restore Sanity, Operations Dalel Hell and Operations Woullah Kakoon from January 2021 to April 2022.

Colonel Bojang has had extensive military training abroad including Nigeria, Ghana, Turkey, USA and UK. He holds a Master’s Degree in Leadership and Defence Studies from the Nigeria Defence Academy Post Graduate School
