Vice President Muhammed BS Jallow has given an update on the implementation of the National Assembly’s resolutions.
It could be recalled that the National Assembly Committee on Finance and Public Accounts Committee (FPAC) sent resolutions on the 2019 audit accounts of Government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
Updating the committee on the resolutions, on Resolution 1, the VP stated that FPAC is in contact with the Accountant General on the matter and appropriate action will be taken in case of definitive default.
On Resolution 2, VP Jallow said the resolution is replicated from the 18th September resolution however, the Accountant General is working on the reconciliations and FPAC has been in the loop.
Speaking on Resolution 3, he said the draft bill
has been developed and submitted to the cabinet and on Resolutions 4 and 5 he stated that all discrepancies of a criminal or fraudulent nature are always reported by the National Audit Office to the IGP, therefore, no further action is required on this matter.
As per Resolution 6, the Vice President noted that it is replicated in Resolution 1 of 18th September 2023 while he said that Resolution 7, is an ongoing process and the National Audit Office will confirm the adjustments in subsequent government audits.
He proceeded with Resolution 8 saying the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs is always part of grant negotiations and on Resolution 9, he noted that all government projects shall use the IFMIS system for all the accounting processes by the end of this financial year.
The Vice President, therefore, asserted that the Government recognized the importance of using the IFMIS system for all accounting processes of projects. In this regard, “the Accountant General is engaging MDAs to ensure the utilization of the system.”
However, the government is fully committed to the implementation of the resolutions and is cooperating with FPAC.
