Kiang West’s lawmaker Lamin Ceesay has opined that ECOWAS leaders must be alive to the plight of the people as a prerequisite for peace.

“Our presidents must respect the plight of the citizens if we want peace,” he added.

The Kiang West NAM made this observation on Tuesday during a parliamentary debate on the report of the Gambian delegation to the ECOWAS Parliament.

“Our presidents must respect the plight of the citizens and not only that but also ensure [presidential] term limit in our constitutions,” Ceesay stressed. He added that contentment on the part of leaders would forestall the many political crises that the sub-region has been embroiled in, referencing the chairman of the ECOWAS Commission’s assertion that the resurgence of coups d’état in West Africa has become a challenge.
