The Mayor of Kanifing Municipal Council, TalibAhmed Bensouda organized an “Iftar” (breaking fast) in respect of the holy month of Ramadan for the residents of KM at the Westfield Youth Monument on Friday 29th March.
This event was done to capture the essence of Ramadan and many turned out for this occasion.
Mayor Bensouda disclosed that it was not the first time his municipality hosted such an event. “This is not the first time, we have done this over the years and we want to keep up the tradition it’s the annual Iftar program for all residents of KM,” he said.
He adds that Ramadan is the month of giving and helping the needy and Iftar is a very important part of Ramadan, while urging people who have the means to do the same for the less privileged.
Hon. Famara Fofana the Councilor of Kololi ward graced the occasion and commended the Mayor for such an initiative.
“This is something we do every year in the month of Ramadan under the leadership of Lord Mayor Bensouda, and it is very important because Ramadan is a month of sharing and giving and the mayor and his councils come together and humble themselves to eat Iftar together with their residents, this is something very commendable and may it continue” he remarked.
Fatou Saho, one of KM’s residents that benefitted from the Iftar also said that Ramadan was a special month especially for Muslims and every wealthy Muslim who could help the less privileged in the month of Ramadan should endeavor to do so.
“I thank the honorable Mayor for this wonderful initiative and I urge people who have the means to help anyone in the month of Ramadan to do so because this is a month that expenses are so much on people especially the less privileged”, she added.
