Police Dispersed Irregular Migration Camp at Denton Bridge

The Gambia Police Force dispersed and arrested 30 individuals believed to be en route to the Canary Islands through an irregular migration journey known as ‘backway.’ 

According to the police, arrested individuals were camping at the Denton Bridge “Kaamaalo.” They comprised three women, a six-month-old child, and 27 men, including 2 Senegalese nationals. 

The Police Intervention Unit (PIU), in a swift response, arrested some individuals within the mangroves, some embarking on a boat, while others dispersed when they saw the police intervention officers. 

Modou Musa Sisawo, Public Relations Officer of the Gambia Police Force, said the initial has it that the individuals arrested have paid huge amounts to embark on the journey. 

“The intended irregular migrants have reported paid between D40,000.00 and D45,000.00,” PRO told The Voice newspaper.
