3 Senegalese Convicted of Aiding Illegal Migration, Violating Residency Laws

A lower court in Brikama has convicted three Senegalese nationals of aiding and abetting irregular EU migration as well as contravening the immigration laws of The Gambia, regarding residency.

The three convicts last month appeared before the BrikamaMagistrates’ Court presided over by Principal Magistrate Anna O. Mendy and they admitted guilt for their involvement in facilitating irregular migration in Kartong on the Gambia’s southern coastline and diverse places in the country.

According to the prosecution, led by Superintendent B. Njieand assisted by ASP Yaya Colley, Ousman Faye, Pape Birame Dioup, and Magueye Camara were apprehended by officers of the Gambia Immigration Department (GID) at Kartong Beach on 25 March 2024.

The trio also pleaded guilty to the charge related to Offences and Revocation of Passes and Permits contrary to 6(2) punishable under Section 32 of the Immigration Act.

The sentence is expected later.
