Lamin Touray, a Gambian national who was reportedly shot dead by the German police on March 30th, would be laid to rest today in Kololi, The Voice has been reliably informed.

Migration and human rights activist Yahya Sonko said his team and the Gambian embassy in Brussels had been actively engaged in ensuring support for LaminTouray’s family and the Gambian community in Germany.

He explained that the embassy’s deputy head of mission joined him and his team in meetings with relevant stakeholders and association heads in Germany to chart a way forward.

“In a touching gesture, the Gambia government paid the entire cost of transporting the dead body in collaboration with my team and facilitated the transportation of Lamin Touray’s remains to The Gambia for a fitting Islamic burial, demonstrating a commitment to honoring his memory and seeking justice,” Sonko stated.

He underlined the importance of international support and solidarity in the ongoing fight for justice and equality for migrants, adding that the Gambian community in Germany and their allies promised to continue taking to the streets, demanding accountability and calling on the international community to stand with them in solidarity until justice is served.

“The rallying cry for justice for Lamin Tourayresonates not just in Germany but across borders. The universal quest for fairness, transparency, and dignity for all,” Sonko asserted.

According to him, the Gambian community in Germany over the weekend gathered in large numbers and displayed powerful solidarity and determination alongside supporters from the black community, German NGOs, associations, and individuals, demanding justice for Lamin.

Sonko opined that the death of Lamin has underscored the urgent need for unified global action against systemic injustices, adding there is a need for collective determination to seek justice and prevent further loss of innocent lives.
