The Gambian leader Adama Barrow made an unannounced visit to the Banjul Port on Tuesday almost five days after the suspension of ferry services along the Banjul-Barra ferry route.

Earlier on Tuesday, the President reportedly visited the Banjul Shipyard, where the country’s only two ferries were being repaired.

Mr. Barrow was accompanied to the port by the information minister Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, the National Security Adviser(NSA) Mr.

Abubacarr Suleiman Jeng, the NPP campaign manager Mr. Lamin Cham, senior government functionaries among others.

The President was met at the Wharf by the Managing Director of the GPA, Mr. OusmanJobarteh, who conducted him on a tour of the port facility.

Speaking to this reporter at the Wharf, the NPP chief strategist Lamin Cham said despite the extreme heat yesterday, the President decided to leave the comfort of the Presidency to visit the shipyard and the port because of the urgency of the situation as regards the ferries.

“The President is deeply concerned about the situation. His visits to the shipyard and the port are glaring indication that he is not oblivious to issues affecting Gambians,” said CM Cham.
