Man Stands Accused of causing Grievous Bodily Harm

One Kebba Manneh was Monday arraigned before principal magistrate Anna O. Mendy of the Brikama magistrates’ court for causing grievous bodily harm to one Seedou Jabang of Kitty Village. 

The prosecution was represented by Cadet ASP M. Jarju, while the accused person wasn’t represented. 

The accused was charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm contrary to section 214 of the criminal code cap 10:01 volume III Laws of the Gambia. 

According to the explanation of the indictment, the accused person, Kebba Manneh, unlawfully assaulted Seedou Jabang by hitting him on his head with a football pitch corner pole causing injuries to the victim. The said incident allegedly happened on the 25 February at Kitty village. 

The accused Kebba Manneh pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.

Section 214 of the Criminal Procedure Code states that anyone who unlawfully does grievousbodily harm to another is guilty of a felony and is liable to imprisonment for seven years.

Prosecutor M. Jarju sought adjournment for prosecution to secure its witness in the case. He further informed the court that the offence is bailable. On that note the prosecution is not objecting to the bail of the accused person. 

Principal magistrate A.O. Mendy granted the application made by the accused, which she also granted bail to the accused person in the sum of D200,000.00 with two Gambian sureties who shall depose to a sworn affidavit. 

The matter is adjourned to 3 May 2024 for commencement of trial.
