By: Nyima Sillah

Former Independent Presidential Candidate and Head of Team Sobeya Lawyer Essa Mbaye Faal, has invited all Gambians to put aside all divisions and unite around a common purpose to take necessary measures to put the Gambia family back on track.

Mr. Faal made this remark in an audio shared with this medium on the celebration of Eid-ul Fitr on last week Wednesday.

“Like all patriotic Gambians, I am saddened by the constant increasing high cost of living, lack of opportunity for the young people which drives them to take the deadly journeys to Europe with many losing their lives in the process, the increasing drug problem especially amongst the youth,”  he catalogued a long list of problems faced by Gambians.

He continues: “The unchecked borrowing that is draining the little national resources we have, the dipping lack of safety and security in the country, the corruption and state capture that has gripped the nation.”

Faal went on to point out that the failure to implement promised reforms and the TRRC recommendations, as among the Barrow Government’s failings. “The failure to pass a new democratic constitution despite spending huge amount of money, the undue delay in putting in place a framework to guarantee a voting rights of Gambians in the diaspora, stagnant wages for civil servants, and the poor health system and poor health infrastructure,” Faal highlighted as among other problems  faced by Gambians.

The Sobeya team leader stated that he would not delve into the collective troubles people face since Eid is a joyous day, but he was quick to vow that in the not-too-distant future, he would release statements on each of the topics mentioned above and propose policy consideration to address the desirable situations.

“I would do so not because of my political responsibility but rather because of the fear of urgency for all Gambians to rise and challenge the status quo to find durable collective solutions to these collective problems in doing so. I invite all Gambians to put aside all divisions and to unite around a common purpose to take all the measures necessary to put the Gambia family back on track to peace, security, economic development, and prosperity for all our people,” Faaladded.

In conclusion, the former presidential candidate extended Eid greetings to the entire Muslims and extended Easter greetings to the Christian community in the recently completed lent.
