President Barrow inspects road works in KM and West Coast Region 

President Adama Barrow accompanied by the Minister of Transport, Works & Infrastructure Hon Ebrima Sillahtogether with other cabinet Ministers, Director of the National Roads Authority, and other staff from the Ministry, on Saturday embarked on an inspection tour of the ongoing road projects ahead of the upcoming OIC Summit in the Gambia.

The tour is meant to assess the progress of the implementation of road projects within the Greater Banjul area and West Coast Region.

The tour allows the President to have first handinformation on the level of implementation of the projects, challenges faced and plans put in place to mitigate those challenges.

The inspection which commenced at the Old JeshwangCemetery P1, continued to Bundung-Latrikunda P15- (BUNDUNG ROAD) driving through to the Latrikunda- Sukuta P5(SUKUTA ROAD ). The officials further continued to – P8 (Bijilo-Sukuta) to the Brufut Gamtel-Ghana Town Road.

The President also visited the ongoing construction sites of the EPC roads in Lot 8  which is the Gunjur Seaside Road Project in the West Coast Region (WCR).

The 4.5km Road Project is contracted to a local Gambian contractor, Green Vision International, and NRA is the consultant. The project started in October 2023, and the duration is 12 months.

So far, the contractor (Green Vision International) has already completed over 200m of the carriageway works. They are simultaneously working on the structures and drainage works.

This project, upon completion will have two culverts, one of which has already been constructed.

The Lot 9 – Sanyang Hawba Road Project in the West Coast Region (WCR) is a  4.5km project which is contracted to another local Gambian company, Zen Construction, and NRA is the consultant.

The project, which started in December 2023, is due to be completed in one year. This project has one culvert and three Irish crossings.

Currently the clearing and grubbing are completed, and the focus is now on the earthworks. Almost half of the sub-base work is completed, and they are now working on the remaining 2.5km of sub-base.

The convoy also entered the Salagi  road to Mariamakunda-Yuna, Yuna – Jabang highway.

Further drove through Farato-Jambur to FaratoBojangkunda through Lamin CDC, to Saint Peter’s   high school before continuing to Coastal road highway, via Turntable to Kairaba Avenue overpass . 

The inspection concluded at the road behind  MOTWI  where a sample road  was constructed by AC experts using ROADCEM a new technology to construct roads and finally returned to Banjul ending the inspection with a good note.
