Lower Nuimi Chief calls for general cleansing ahead of OIC

The Lower Nuimi District Authority held a meeting recently to discuss about general cleansing of communities ahead of OIC submit.

Chief George L Sonko underscored the importance of OIC submit and challenge all Gambians and non-Gambians to support government towards having a successful conference. Chief Sonko calls on the general communities and business sectors to ensure proper upkeep and disposal of waste. He uses the moment to congratulate President AdamaBarrow and government for their commitment towards the hosting of the submit. Chief Sonkocall on the peoples and communities of Lower Nuimi to be vigilant to ensure respect for the rule of law and work with the security agents to ensure security.  

Commenting on Maintenance of KUNTA KINTEH Ferry, Lower Nuimi Chief said the maintenance of ferry is important and uses the moment to call on Gambia Ferry Service to carry out dredging at Barra landing site before final operation of ferry service to avoid delay of services. Chief Sonko uses the moment to issue strong warning to the communities of JamagenKati, Berending and Bakindick to desist from illegal logging and said his tribunal has zero tolerance on illegal logging. He also urged the peoples and security forces to monitor and report any illegal activities.  He said the high rate of illegal logging in the above named areas remained a concern for the district tribunal. 

Lower Nuimi Chief reiterated the need for farmers to desist from denying neighbors from accessing farmlands and giving out to neighbors, noting that affect social cohesion and trust.  On the issue of land sale, Chief Sonkocautioned alkalolu and land owners to be vigilant and desist from illegal activities and caution alkalolu to authenticate documents or follow due process of the law. 

Chief Sonko cautions farmers and general population to avoid bushfires and contribute to mitigate the effect of climate change.
