The Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS) has slammed an indefinite suspension on one of its reporters Baba Sillah, competent sources informed this medium.
Sources also informed this medium that the GRTS’s correspondent in the Central River Region (CRR) Modou LaminSanneh was also suspended for two weeks but has since resumed duties.
Though the details of the suspension of Messrs. Sillah and Sanneh were scant, sources hinted that their suspension was related to a recent staff transfer decision that affected both.
“Baba Sillah has been transferred to the CRR to replace ModouLamin Sanneh but has not reported to his new duty station due to a health complication that he had been battling for many years,” our source said.
Baba’s inability to assume his new role has reportedly angered Modou Lamin, leading to his two-week suspension.
Reliable sources informed this reporter that the GRTS has been insisting that Baba report to his new post his health condition, notwithstanding.
Meanwhile, since the assumption of the role of director general of the GRTS by Mr. Abdoulie Sey, the public broadcaster has been trending towards an alarming rate of staff attrition.
Former director of TV programs at the GRTS earlier this year resigned, citing that she had been sidelined by Mr. Sey.
Former finance director Yamundaw Gai also resigned from the GRTS last month and according to The Alkamba Times, she left because of a similar issue.
Mr. Sey has also been accused of giving more preference to the radio staff.
The recent promotions at the GRTS have also been criticized in some quarters as according to sources, due process wasn’t adhered to.
