Scores of business owners have expressed dismay over the continuous price hike of basic commodities in the Serrekunda market.

Modou Ceesay, a vendor at Serrekunda explains that businessmen currently face a lot of challenges which is making the business difficult.

He said the continuous price hike of basic commodities should be a concern and the government should address it quickly.

Ceesay argues that it is not their fault to increase the prices of goods, adding that it is because of how they get goods from the importers.

He points out that commodities don’t have specific prices which is also another challenge hindering the business sector.

“As a country, there should be price control on the commodities to avoid issues with customers because they think that we increase the prices without any reason,” he said.

Another vendor Awa Sowe highlighted that the value of Senegalese currency CFA has increased drasticallyagainst the Dalasis which make them sell without making any profit.

“We are suffering as far as business is concerned and ican’t explain it all, you just have to sell and solve your problems,” she cried.
She notes that everything in the country is hard as nothing is working which is devastating.

They both called on the government to intervene, saying because 90% of the citizens feed their families by doing business.
