Hon. Omar MM Njie, an esteemed Supreme Court Judge, has Monday been sworn in as a member of the judicial service commission.
The ceremony was held under the auspices of His Lordship, the Chief Justice of The Gambia, Hassan B. Jallow.
The Judicial Service Commission has a three-year-tenure for inductees.
In a release shared with the Voice newspaper, the judiciary is confident that this addition would significantly result in an improved legal system.
“Hon. Justice Njie’s induction into the Judicial Service Commission underscores a commitment to excellence and integrity within The Gambia’s legal fraternity. His appointment reflects a dedication to upholding the highest standards of judicial governance and ensuring equitable access to justice for all citizens,” the release noted.
The commission’s responsibility is diverse. Some of its key functions include appointments of judicial officers, advising the president on judicial appointments, and recommending terms and conditions of service for judges and other judicial officers. Additionally, the Commission plays a pivotal role in proposing measures to improve court administration, implementing public education programs on the justice system, and exercising various other functions as conferred by the National Assembly
