The Women’s Association for Victims Empowerment (WAVE) recently gathered victims of human rights violation under the dictatorial regime of former President Yahya Jammeh for a public lecture.

The initiative is a project under Legal Empowerment Fund and was held at the African Centre for Legal Research and Training.

The public lecture was aimed at creating awareness, educating, and engaging diverse opinions on the principles of transitional justice process.

Imran Darboe, advocacy specialist gave the rationale behind the lecture which, he said, was geared towards nation-building through reconciliation.

“Nation-building is the overall objective of reconciliation process and the end-product supposed to be unity, which has multiple processes,” Darboe revealed during the lecture while commending the African Union for taking part in the process.

Other speakers included Saffie Nyang, legal consultant and Tabu Sarr, former head of TRRC reconciliation unit, who all spoke at length about the reconciliation processes and mechanism put in place as guideline.
