Dobo Joint Forest Park Management (JFPM) of Central Badibouin North Bank Region expressed dismay on the recent outbreak of fire at Dobo Community forest that destroyed significant parts of the forest.
Mamadou Jallow, President of the park underscored the significance of protecting forest cover and said the efforts undertaken by Joint Forest Park Management contributed to the protection of the park for the past seven years.
He expressed concern over poor handling and management of bushfires during clearing of farms but commended the community for their timely intervention and mobilisation of communities for taking ownership.
Chief Alagie Jagne, the chief of Central Badibou emphasised the district tribunal’s zero-tolerance to bushfires and issued warning to law breakers in the forests.
Chief Jagne was speaking to VOICE in Njaba Kunda.
He thanked members of the Joint Forest Park Management for their swift action in putting out fire at the park.
He also cautioned farmers, who have started clearing farmlands,to create fire belts around to enable them control and manage fire.
