Man Docked for Receiving Over D130,000 on Pretext of Facilitating Backway Journey

A man appeared before the Brikama Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday for allegedly obtaining D136,000 on the pretext of enabling two individuals to travel to Spain through irregular means.

One Lamin Darboe has been arraigned before Principal Magistrate Anna O. Mendy on allegations of obtaining D136,000 from Demba Njie and Amadou Bah on false promise of taking them to Spain. The prosecution alleged that Laminmade the promise with the knowledge that the representation was false.

He denied wrongdoing and was granted bail in the sum of D150,000 and must produce two sureties with a Gambian ID card or passport as part of the bail conditions. 

The Inspector General of Police was represented by ASP ButehSawaneh while the accused was not represented by any lawyer.

The case resumes on June 6th. 

According to Section 288 of the CPC, any person who, by any pretense and with intent to defraud, obtains from any other person anything capable of being stolen or induces any other person to deliver to any person capable of being stolen, is guilty of a misdemeanor and is liable to imprisonment for three years
