State Tenders Pistol, Live Round in Alleged PIU Murder Trial

By Haddy Touray

The Director of Public Prosecution, A.M Yusuf, yesterday tendered a pistol, live round, and empty bullet casings in the ongoing trial over the alleged murder of paramilitaries Pateh M. Jallow and Sang J. Gomez sometime last year.

The recovered items, which included a pistol, two pairs of shoes, a grey kaftan, a live round, and empty bullet casings, were subsequently tendered and admitted as exhibits after they were identified by the state witness, Francis Jatta, who is also a forensic expert.

Testifying earlier before Justice Ebrima Jaiteh, Mr. Jatta, who is also the sixth prosecution witness, said he could recall that therecovered ammunitions were also taken to the army for ballistic examination before they were handed over to the prosecutors with a report.

He further testified that he could also recall that the investigation team along with the accused [Ousainou Bojang] went to the residence of Bojang, where they recovered a grey kaftan, two pairs of shoes, black trousers, and a jacket, which were also handed over to investigators for safekeeping.

The case was adjourned at that point for cross-examination.

Ousainou Bojang allegedly shot three paramilitary officers in September of last year at Sukuta-Jabang traffic lights, causing the death of officers Pateh M. Jallow and Sang J. Gomez while the other officer Nancy Jawo sustained life-threatening injuries.
