The lawmaker for Foni Jarrol Constituency Kebba Tumanding Sanneh, has said that Gambia needs reform on governance and development.He said this during an interview with the Voice Newspaper recently held. “We need serious reforms as a country in order to develop like other countries in the world,” the lawmaker stressed.
“I advise the government to fight corruption because a nation cannot develop or progress if the corruption rate is high,” he argued.Hon. Sanneh also urged President Barrow to take the lead in addressing the burning issues that are affecting the citizens. “The country is ina mess and I don’t think it is indiscipline to say that because a lot of issues are frustrating ranging from health, education, price hike and others.
”According to him, the prices of basic commodities in the country continue to increase for the past years and the government has nothing to present to the Gambians.He stresses that the poverty rate is getting higher, while economic hardship and lack of basic amenities are the main factors forcing the youth to embark on irregular migration which has seen the loss of many lives.
Sanneh explains that despite all the risks involvemany young Gambians still want to embark on the perilous journey out of the country since government fails to meet their needs.
“If this trend continues i fear for the future of this country and no country will progress without its youths,” he asserted
Foni Jarrol lawmaker noted that politics was deeply rooted in our systems and that made us to neglect the interest of the citizens.
“We keep on complaining regarding the issues of the country but it seems that government is not providing any solution,” he added.
He cited the recent OIC summit arguing that the summit was a failure but the government maintained that hosting the summit was a big achievement.
Hon. Sanneh said the government should respect the plight of the citizens and address the current situation of the country.
“I urged the government to desist from making empty promises to the citizens since the electionis fast approaching and the citizens also should vote based on competence and not on tribal sentiments,” he concluded.
