The Governor of West Coast Region Saturday inaugurated a new District Tribunal in Gunjur funded by the GACH Global CEO Abubakary Jawara as part of his company’s social corporate responsibility.
The inauguration was attended by hundreds of Kombo South residents and government functionaries.
According to the Gunjur VDC, the community reached out to Abubakary Jawara to support them with a new courtroom replacing the former courthouse which was dilapidated. The VDC highlighted that Mr Jawara has been consistently supportive of the community of Kombo South in various aspects.
In his inaugural speech, the West Coast Regional Governor, Ousman Bojang, commended Mr Jawara for having the foresight to construct the tribunal.
He urged the community to recognise and value the initiative.
“It is also important for you to remain united and make joint efforts towards enhancing the community’s welfare,” he said.
Governor Bojang advised the chief to continue delivering justice without fear or favour.
Yusuf Jawara, in a statement delivered on behalf of Mr. Jawara, emphasised that the construction of the District Tribunal Court was made possible by GACH Global Company. He acknowledged the peaceful environment facilitated by President Adama Barrow, which enabled such community development initiatives.
He made it emphatically clear that Mr Jawara didn’t fund the construction of the court to exempt himself or his company from being held accountable when he breaks the law. Jawara said the sponsorship was part of their social corporate responsibility and that GACH would continue to contribute to the social economic development of Gambian communities irrespective of the relationship they shared with them.
District Chief, Falalo Touray, commended Mr Jawara and his company for their timely support. He underlined the importance of giving back to the community, citing Jawara’s contributions such as building courthouses, a police station in Sanyang, and other projects in different parts of Kombo South.
“Not every entrepreneur reinvests a portion of their profits back into the community as a form of corporate social responsibility but Juwara is an exception,” he said.
He highlighted that the newly built tribunal would serve to uphold justice and peace within the community, catering to all residents regardless of their background, status, or political beliefs.
