Gambian President His Excellency Adama Barrow has commended Mr. Hamidou Jah, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Jah Oil and Companies for venturing into rice farming.
He made the remarks, recently in Bayaba, where the Jah Group has made remarkable strides in industrial rice production. The company has developed 1,200 hectares of land in the Sami Central River Region to support this large-scale project and has invested in advanced machinery to pump water from the River Gambia to irrigate the rice fields.
Additionally, they are rehabilitating the road leading to the rice field to ensure smooth logistics and transport.
Mr. Hamidou Jah had vowed to expand his operations to cover 15,000 hectares across the country. His goal is to produce enough rice to feed all Gambian citizens, significantly contributing to national food security.
Speaking at Bayaba, President Adama Barrow highlighted Mr. Jah’s abilities, saying he did not doubt that “Hamidou will do what he pledged.”
The Gambia leader described him as a serious businessman, noting the potential benefits of such investments, including job creation, economic growth, and a reduction in the reliance on foreign exchange for rice imports.
