The Gambia Bankers Association (GBA), on Saturday, 1 June 2024 held its first walk for health exercise geared towards maintaining physical health and a cordial relationship among members.
The walk for health exercise started from the Trust Bank Branch at West Field and stretched down to the Traffic Light on KairabaAvenue attracting scores of participants from across the banking sector in the country.
Speaking during the opening, the President of the Bankers Association, Isatou Jawara described the day as a milestone not only within the sector but for the wider communities within the Kanifing Municipal and its surroundings.
She said the event is a testament to their collective commitment to promoting physical fitness, well-being, and a healthier lifestyle for everyone.
“Our heartfelt gratitude also goes to the Ministry of Health for their tireless efforts in promoting public health which have inspired us to take an active role in this domain. We are also honoured by the presence of the Honourable Minister of Youths and Sports, whose advocacy for youth engagement and physical activity is critical to fostering a vibrant active population” she underlined
Madam Jawara applauded the organisers, volunteers, and participants who have made the event possible
The Executive Secretary of the association, Pa Alieu Ndow, and the Deputy Executive Director of the National Sports Council, Mahmoud L. Jawla re-echoed similar sentiment, emphasisingthe great health benefits of the exercise.
