The Mayor of KMC, Talib Ahmad Bensouda, addressing United Democratic Party (UDP) rally pleads with Gambians to say no to third term presidency, stressing that African presidents should stop at two terms.
“I am pleading with Gambians, in Africa all presidents should stop at the second term, no to third term. We voted for Adama Barrow in 2016 so that when he comes into power he can make reforms, change the laws and bring new laws,” he stated.
He goes on to address the people who have argued that two terms is not in the Gambia’s constitution.
“For people saying that two terms is not in the constitution, let’s not forget the constitutionalreform which a lot of money was paid for a new constitution which cost about hundred million. Experts carried out surveys and one of the finding shows that most Gambians want presidents to stop at two terms so they should not be in power today and forget,” he recalled.
He stated that new people with strength and new ideas should come and take the Gambia to higher heights.
He also highlighted the military coups that have been happening in other African countries sayinghe believes is caused by African presidents over staying in power.
“We have seen a lot of military takeovers in African countries and we do not pray for that to happen here, the only thing that can stop this isfor presidents limiting to two terms,” he stressed.
“If Adama Barrow doesn’t want to stop at two terms, we will take him out in 2026 and bring in UDP to do the work they have wanted to do since 2016,” Mayor Bensouda underscored
