The Secretary-General and leader of the People’s Alliance Party (PAP), Ebrima Tabora Manneh, has vowed to wage a war against official corruption and inflation if voted into office in 2026.
The PAP leader made this vow in an exclusive interview with The Voice on Monday.
Manneh said his party has set for itself the goal of exposing corrupt practices in public offices, alleging that corruption is rampant in The Gambia. He lamented that the country’s resources are not being properly managed, adding that despite the existence of a lot of evidence of official graft, no individual has far faced the consequences of corrupt practices. To Manneh, the government has failed the citizens in all aspects of human development.
He explained that PAP would leverage the River Gambia and invest in agriculture to spur economic growth andensure food sovereignty.
“We cannot keep relying on importation as a country. We should take ownership of our country. For us to develop,we must produce locally and minimize importation, “heemphasized.
Mr. Manneh described the current situation of the country’s health sector, education, agriculture, economy and others as worrying.
“Our country has to move because the current situation cannot be maintained,” he asserted.
He stated that The Gambia is lagging in development, saying the majority of citizens go to bed hungry.
“The Government doesn’t have empathy for the citizens. As a party, we are set to get competent people on board to work for the country. PAP will create more job opportunities for the youths to make sure that irregular migration is minimized,” said Manneh.
Manneh admitted that citizens were disappointed by a lot of politicians but added that some politicians are ready to sacrifice for the country.
“As a politician, the interest of the masses should supersede individual interest. Things are very tough and only the Gambians can rescue themselves as elections is around the corner,” he concluded.
