A Tobaski Wanterr tradefair, organized by the Gambia Youth Chamber of Commerce (GYCC), got underway at the GCCI trade fair ground around theBrusubi Turntable.

The Business Manager of GCCI, Abubacarr Jobe, described the fair as the first of its kind, adding that the initiative aims to create market for young entrepreneurs, especially young entrepreneurs.

“GYCC’s job is to complement the work of the government. We came up with this idea because we see that when it’s Tobaski time, everywhere is usually blocked. People are seen selling everywhere in the streets, which causes a lot of blockage in the markets, traffic congestion and also attracts thieves,” he stated.

Jobe acknowledged that the GCCI did not hesitate to offer their fair ground to organizers when the youth chamber approached them with the idea of organizing a Tobaski Wanterr trade fair.

The CEO of MVs Collection, Vina Jallow who is also a vendor at the trade fair Wanterr said business was thriving as people were spending on the wares on display.

“The stalls were given to us as reasonable cost and we were able to cover the expenses. The only difficulty we have here is the erratic power supply”, she said.

She called on the public to visit the trade fair for all they may need for the Tobaski.

“They should all come and support their own because we are all young Gambian entrepreneurs and I will really appreciate if they all come here to shop. Everyone here in the trade fair is selling good quality stuff. So, they should all come and buy here,” she said.

Fatou Jawo, the CEO of Infinity Line and a stall owner at the trade fair, said she always wish trade fair comes every month because the sales she makes there is bigger than the one she makes at her shop.

“Let’s not all go to the crowded Serrekundamarket. Things are affordable at the trade fair and you will shop comfortably here without any hassle,” she added.

Aisha Tamba, the Sales Girl at Falz Business, one of the stalls at the trade fair also said that they are gradually making sales.

She, however, stated that electricity was the only issue affecting them.

She pointed out that they make more sales during the weekend than the weekdays.

“Here is safer and more secure than any market. You won’t face any issues while shopping here and we sell at affordable prices,” she also highlighted.
