Former Police Officer among pilgrims affected by heat strokes during Jamarat rite in Makkah

A former police officer, Aja Kumba Joof, passed away while on the Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia. According to a family member, she collapsed after the stoning of the devil called Jamarat amid scorching temperatures.

She was among those affected by heat strokes and exhaustion when they went to stone the Jamarat, one of the hajj rites.

The development resulted in the death of an unspecified number of affected pilgrims. It was however gathered that no fewer than 14 Jordanians died with many others still receiving treatment in various hospitals, though the total death is yet to be ascertained.

The news of Aja Kumba Joof’s passing has sent shockwaves through her family and beyond. Her former colleagues in the police are mourning the loss of a dedicated servant and beloved family member. As arrangements are being made to bring her body back home, friends and colleagues are sharing fond memories of her commitment to justice and her warm, compassionate nature.

Aja Kumba’s family is coordinating with her travel agency and the Hajj Commission on procedures to either bury her in Saudi Arabia or transport her body back to The Gambia. The impact of her death is being felt deeply, and her legacy will continue to inspire those who knew her.

We extend our sincere condolences to her family.
