The Brikama Magistrates’ Court presided over by Magistrate K.B. Sambou has ordered the remand in custody of one Omar Kanteh for allegedly setting his neighbor on fire.
Kanteh has been charged with the alleged offense of causing grievous bodily harm contrary to section 214 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
According to the particulars of offence, the suspect on 8 June 2024, at Brikama Kabafita Layout, Kombo Central, West Coast Region, unlawfully caused grievous bodily harm to a certain Alasana Suso setting him ablaze after pouring petrol on him.
He denied the charges.
His lawyer Solomon C. Jatta urged the court to grant him bail but the prosecution vehemently objected to this on the basis that the accused and the victim are neighbors and that it might not be safe for them to be together. He also argued that the accused may abscond if granted bail.
Magistrate K.B Sambou, after listening to the arguments of both sides, ordered the remand in custody of Kanteh, pending the determination of the case.
The IGP was represented by Sergeant Bangura.
