LThe United Democratic Party (UDP) mouthpiece Bundungconstituency, Sulayman Dampha has called for the prioritization of Bundung roads ahead of the rainy season.
“We are calling on the Minister of Transport Works and Infrastructure, Honourable Ebrima Sillah, and the central government to make this project a priority and complete the construction on time. If not it will not only be a challenge for the people of Bundung but the entire Gambia as that road is often used by so many people,” the UDP official told The Voice.
He explained that if the rainy season meets the current situation of the Bundung Road, it would be a disaster because those who have cars will not be able to park them in their compounds since they do not have access to the entrance to their main gates to drive inside the compound.
“We are very disappointed because we were hopeful that the road will be completed on time. Every day residents of this area struggle to get to their destination, especially those that go to the Bundung Maternal Hospital and students going to school,” Dampha bemoaned.
He pointed out that the Minister promised during his visit to the road that the construction would be finished in March, but March was here and now June is halfway there is no sign of completion. This, he said, is not going to affect the people of Bundung only, but also the people who use the road thus “there are lots of deep potholes in front of residences gates, and on the highway, too, this can cause havoc when it rains.”
Notwithstanding, he expressed that residents of Bundung had high hopes for the Minister and the government at the approach of the OIC Summit held in The Gambia but dashed people’s hopes which is now another terrible experience for residents, and even Gambians as a whole.
