NAM Wants Barrow to Address Burning IssuesBy Binta Jaiteh

Lawmaker for Latrikunda Sabiji Yaya MentengSanyang has advised President Barrow to frankly address the burning issues of the country during the State of Nation Address (SONA) as the National Assembly is set to begin its second ordinary session on Monday 24th June.

Hon. Sanyang disclosed this during an interview with, The Voice on Thursday. “I remind President Barrow that SONA is a constitutional platform for frank, sincere, and full disclosure of state affairs of the country.”

The Latrikunda Sabiji lawmaker said Gambians and non-Gambians will keenly listen to all the details that will be addressed by the President concerning the matters of the country. “People are feeling the state of affairs of this country every single day,” he remarked.

According to him, it is over seven years and still President Barrow doesn’t understand the way a country is governed. “Barrow is surrounded by greedy individuals who are misleading him and mismanaging public funds” said Sanyang.

He emphasized the continuous price hike of basic commodities with high poverty rate affecting the people with Barrow’s government failing to address the matter. “A serious government that genuinely wants to assist its citizens will lower interest rate at the banks which will motivate the citizens to borrow money from banks to venture into business,” he suggested. That is the way, he added, millionaires are created in countries when government creates loan facilities at minimal interest rate.

He further stated that government should disclose all their business interest and affiliates to the Gambians because they are the tax payers and they deserve to know the affairs of the government for accountability purpose. “President Barrow should be ready to lead or he should resign or parliament will do the needful by impeachment,” NAM Sanyang concluded.
