The Gambia Navy on a joint routine patrol with the Spanish Guardian Civil intercepted a migrant boat around Jinack Island, on Saturday, 22nd June 2024.

“The boat was intercepted around Jinack around 7/8 nautical miles from Banjul. The migrants looked tired, hungry, and thirsty. They can be seen limping because they were packed in a very tight space,” The GAF Deputy PRO Major BasadyGassama told The Voice on Saturday.

He stated that the migrants included 32 Gambians, 21 Senegalese, 11 Ghanaians, and 2 Guineans. Among them were 2 females, a Gambian, and a Senegalese, and a minor.

“They looked disappointed as their mission was intercepted and they were safely escorted to the Banjul Port and handed over to the immigration upon arrival,” PRO stated.
