Mayor Bensouda disburses over 300 lenses worth D3.3M to needy

Talib Ahmed Bensouda, the Mayor of Kanifing Municipal Council, with support from Etoile du Lac Hotel, Senegal, and Reina’s Restaurant, on Saturday 22nd June, disbursed 340 eyewear lenses worth D3.3million to KM residents.

The event was designed to enhance vision and promote well-being within the community by providing necessary eyewear to needy individuals examined on May 25th and 26th, 2024. 

Speaking at the handing-over ceremony, Mayor Bensouda, expressed gratitude to the donors, for their support to KMC residents.

“We are all aware that having access to quality eye care in the country is expensive, thus, having people to support over 300 people with lenses to enhance their sight is commendable, as it is a critical feature in the human body,” he said.

He encouraged the donors to continue the good work and help Senegambia so both countries can prosper and enhance unity.

He urged beneficiaries to look after the glasses and to be aware that these are quality lenses that can enhance their vision “Taking care of it confirms its longevity.”

Mr. Wuyeh Bah, the head of delegates from Etoile du Lac Hotel said the good work that KMC is doing is the reason that encouraged them to complement its efforts. “We came here a month ago to screen the people as we know it’s important to have good healthcare, especially eyesight, that is why we intervene to support the municipality.”

He added that “this is also a way to foster our relationship between the Gambia and Senegal, to reaffirm the unity and demonstrate our collective commitment to supporting the health and welfare of our residents.”

Abdourahman Ceesay, a beneficiary thanked the municipality and donors for this opportunity. “I was diagnosed and needed to buy lenses for a while now, but couldn’t due to the cost. Therefore, this gesture was overwhelming for me and I can’t thank the donors enough.”
