20 Suspected Scammers Rounded Up in Joint Operations

20 Nigerian nationals were last Thursday rounded up in two simultaneous sting operations conducted by the Drugs Law Enforcement Agency of The Gambia (DLEAG) and the Gambia Immigration Department (GID), DLEAG announced over the weekend.

They were suspected of involvement in online scams, document fraud, and related criminalactivities. 

According to the Gambia’s anti-narcotics agency, 15 of the suspects were arrested with 23 laptops and 18 mobile phones at Wullinkama while five suspects were rounded up with two laptops and 10 mobile phones in a swoop at Coastal Road.

“Operatives also discovered a red plastic bag,containing some quantities of suspected skunk Cannabis. The suspects were taken into custody and charged with joint possession of a prohibited drug. The matter concerning suspected online scamming and documentation fraud will be forwarded to The Gambia Police Force and GID for further investigations and necessary actions that will be informed by the outcome of their investigations,’’ DLEAG said.
