ActionAid Inspects Project Sites in Niamina

In its vision of a just, equitable and sustainable world in which every person enjoys the right to a life of dignity, freedom from poverty and all forms of oppression, ActionAid developed a country strategy paper which spans from 2024 to 2028 with commitment to provide portable drinking water, road and schools to the most vulnerable communities.

The day-long inspection tour and engagement with duty bearers and community members, is part of ActionAid strategy priority seven which is gear toward implementing its programmes and projects for the promotion and advocacy for effective, transparent and accountable public delivery.

The inspection tour covered the three districts of Niamina where the authorities had fruitful engagement with the beneficiary communities and the impact of the project on their lives and livelihoods as well as challenges.

Saiba Susso, ActionAid regional manager  who led the high-powered delegation drawn from various departments in the region, including ward councillorsand national assembly members from the said districts, explained the genesis of the tour and the way forward.

According to Mr. Susso, the inspection tour will avail the relevant stakeholders to have firsthand information of the  development needs of the communities and how to find solutions to address them.

The National Assembly Member for NiaminaDankunku, Samba Jallow  and the Regional Disaster Coordinator, Lamin Fatty also shared their views on the tour and how it will help  them  to fully understand  the problems of  the local communities.

Most of the communities in the rural Gambia still continue to have access to primary health care facility, good quality network and education, but this project bankrolled by ActionAid the Gambia will help these local communities to have access to those facilities.

Beneficiary communities have expressed appreciation for the timely intervention with high expectation of more facilities from genuine partners like ActionAid to improve their living standard.

Since its started operation in the Gambia, ActionAid the Gambia has been complementing government’s efforts in all aspect of development, by transforming the livelihood of the most hard reached vulnerable communities across the country.
