The National Assembly Member for Banjul North, Modou Lamin Bah, last Saturday spearheaded a free health screening for his constituents.
The exercise was carried out in partnership with Innovarx Global Health, whose team of health experts was on the ground, screening for diseases such asDiabetes (blood sugar), Hypertension (blood pressure) and Obesity. Both young and old came out to get tested to know their health statuses.
According to the Banjul North NAM, the exercise wasthe first-ever free preventive health screening for the people of Banjul North Constituency, adding that it was aimed at bringing free healthcare services to the doorstep of the people of Banjul.
“As a representative, I believe I am in Parliament to address the needs and concerns of the Gambianpeople. So I deem it necessary to try, by all means, to bring healthcare services to the doorstep of my people,starting with my own constituency,” he said.
“Health is indeed our priority as representatives in Parliament and we will try, by all means, to make sure that our people are healthy because we believe a healthy nation is a developed nation, a healthy nation is a progressive nation and a healthy nation is also a sustainable nation,” he underscored.
The Clinical Operations Manager of Innovarx Global Health, Betty V. Gomez said that they’ve been offering free screening for communities.
“As part of our corporate social, responsibility, this is really what we do. Whenever a community calls us, we go there and screen them for free because as we all know there is a high prevalence of high blood and diabetes in The Gambia,” she stated.
The Turkish ambassador to The Gambia, H.E TurkerOba, also graced the screening to show the much-needed moral support for the initiative.
