Mr. Buah Saidy, Governor Central Bank of the Gambia has called for the speedy establishment of the Africa Monetary Institute (AMI), and a multifaceted approach to address the debt crisis by collaborating with fiscal authorities.
He made the statement in Tunisia on Sunday in commemoration of Africa Integration Day under the theme: ‘Achieving Africa’s Financial Integration for Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development: The Role AAMFI and the AfDB’
The governor who chaired the ministerial session emphasized the importance of integration, describing it as a powerful catalyst for progress that bridges gaps, fosters collaboration, and empowers economies.’
Earlier on Saturday, the Governor proffered solutions to the current debt crisis of the continent.
He also pointed out the importance of advocating for reforms in the global financial architecture to make it more inclusive saying, ‘We must push for a global economic governance structure that is more equitable and responsive to our needs.’
Governor Saidy, calls for innovative financing mechanisms such as ‘diaspora bonds and green bonds’ to fund environmentally sustainable projects.’
