Former Gambian first division champions Hawks FC who was relegated last season have returned quickly to the Gambia Football Federation division after being crowned Champions of the GFF Second Division League 2023/24 men’s competition on Sunday 7th July 2024.
Hawks FC wrapped up a memorable campaign with a nail-biting 1-1 draw against Immigration FC at the Bakau Mini Stadium on a well-attended final match day.
The colorful ceremony presided over by GFF President Mr. Lamin Kaba Bajo was also attended by 1st Vice President Bakary K Jammeh, 4th Vice President Ms. Sainabou Cham, Technical Director Mr Sang John Ndong, President of Hawks FC Hon.
James Gomez, executive member Modou Musa Njai, and a cross-section of local dignitaries and fans graced the final match.
As champions, Hawks FC went home with D500, 000.00 (five hundred thousand dalasis), gold medals, and a giant trophy. Hart FC as runners-up received a cheque of D250,000.00 (two hundred and fifty thousand dalasis) while second Runners Gambian Dutch Lions FC earned D125,000.00 (one hundred and twenty-five thousand dalasis).
In other results, Gambia Ports Authority (GPA) FC beat already relegated Jarra West 1-7 in Soma to take the final playoff spot as Gunjur United and BK Milan canceled out each other in a goalless draw at the LOSFF in Old Yundum. Meanwhile, FF Cup finalists Medina United ended their season on a high with a narrow 1-0 defeat of Serekunda FC.
