Sanna Drammeh has been arraigned before Magistrate FatouDarboe-Jaguraga of the Brikama Magistrate Court for allegedly stabbing Bakary Bah to death with a knife at Lamin Football Field, while the prosecutor applied for a transfer of the case to the High Court.
The police charged Sanna Drammeh with murder contrary to section 187 of the Criminal Procedure Code cap 10:01 volume III Laws of the Gambia.
According to particular of his offence, Sanna Drammeh was alleged to have committed offence to wit malice aforethought caused the death of Bakary Bah by stabbing him in his neck. The incident happened on the 4th of July 2024 at Lamin Village, Kombo North District, West Coast Region of the Republic of The Gambia.
Before the accused person took his plea, Inspector Ebou Ceesay applied to the court pursuant to sections 62 (2) and 208 (a) of the Criminal Procedure Codes respectively, to transfer the matter to the special criminal division of the High Court, and to remand the accused at the Mile II Central Prisons pending the hearing at the High Court.
He said he made this application because the penalty attracted to the offence charged is life imprisonment, which the court does not have jurisdiction to preside over.
Magistrate Fatou Darboe-Jaguraga granted both applications made by the prosecution by applying sections 62 (2) and 208 (a) of the CPC.
Inspector Ebou Ceesay represented the Inspector General of Police in the case.
