Sankareh Hints IGP Touray Frustrating Gov’t Spokesman’s Office

By: Momodou Justice Darboe

The Gambia government spokesman Ebrima G. Sankareh has suggested that the police chief Seedy Touray has been frustrating the Gambia government’s spokesperson’s office as regards information flow between his office and that of the IGP.

Mr. Sankareh rued on Coffee Time With Peter Gomez on Tuesday that the police chief failed to respond to his calls despite the urgency of the matter on his table at the time.

The Gambia government spokesman reminisced how the deceased former police chief Mamour Jagne embraced and nurtured an open-door policy between the Spokesman’s Office and the Office of the IGP, suggesting that that cordial working relationship has been consigned to history.

The Gambia government mouthpiece found himself in an awkward position few months ago when he told Coffee Time With Peter Gomez that the suspected shooter of three paramilitaries at Sukuta-Jabang traffic lights was a security guard at the Brikama Area Council(BAC), hinting that the suspect was a hired assassin. He further claimed that the alleged killer was seen in a video taken during the appearance of the BAC chair before the Banjul Magistrates’ Court. He alleged that the alleged killer was part of BAC chair’s entourage.

After coming under a barrage of sweltering criticism for “misleading” the public, Sankareh made a U-turn and said he was fed the information by the police. Mr. Abdoulie Sanyangwas the police chief at the time.

At the time of writing this story, it has yet to be clear whether IGP Touray has been avoiding the Gambia government Spokesman’s Office. What was clear though is that the Gambia government spokesman wanted a better working relationship between his office and that of the Office of the Inspector General of Police.
