The Gambia Drug Law Enforcement Agency is not relenting in its efforts to clean the country of illicit drugs and other prohibited drugs as the agency under 72 hours apprehended 5 people in possession of 32 pills of ecstasy and other prohibited drugs.
As drug trafficking and abuse have significantly risen among young people in the Gambia, the Gambia Drug Law Enforcement Agency (DLEAG) continued mounting crackdown operations on the hot spots of drug activities.
According to the latest DLEAG statement released on Thursday morning, the agency apprehended several people in various parts of the country in possession of cannabis sativa concealed in charcoal bags and ecstasy pills.
“Muhammed Johnson a 23-year-old resident of Banjul and a businessman by profession was arrested at Pinyai by Banjul DLEAG on the 8th July 2024 at around 13:15 hours GMT onwards with (8) wraps of suspected cannabis sativa concealed in white papers,” DLEAG unveiled in a statement.
The statement further uncovered that 27 years old Malang Fatty a Senegalese and resident of Siliti Village was arrested at Manduar Village by Brikama DLEAG station on the 9th July 2024 at around 21:00 hours GMT onwards with 7 big bundles of suspected cannabis sativa concealed in cement paper, placed in blue and brown bags and further placed inside an empty red rice bag respectfully.
Drug Law Enforcement Agency of The Gambia said it has further arrested a baker with suspected cannabis sativa concealed in a bag of charcoal while on transportation.
“42 years old Omar Jammeh a resident of Serrekunda and a Baker by profession was arrested at Mandinaba Check Point by Mandinaba DLEAG station on the 10th July 2024 at around 13:25 hours GMT onwards with 4 big bundles of suspected cannabis sativa concealed in cement papers and placed inside a bag of charcoal with a commercial vehicle,” it explained.
DLEAG revealed that it apprehended over 300 ecstasy pills with other prohibited drugs from two individuals “28 years AlieuBadjan a resident of Ghana town and 24 years, Musa Njie, a resident of Kanifing were arrested by Brusubi DLEAG station at Brufut on the 10th July 2024 at around 23:00 hours GMT onwards with 302 pills of ecstasy, 7 wraps of suspected cannabis skunk and 2 wraps of suspected cannabis resin (hashish) which are all concealed in a transparent plastic bag,” the statement stated further added.
