Former member of The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF), AbdoulieSanyang, has contended that Yaya Jammeh still has some loyalists beyond the shore of The Gambia even in the Army and other institutions.
“Most of them used Brikama to cross the border to Senegal to spend weekends with their families in Casamance. Besides, there is an infringement in the Dasilameh border and Cassamaceas Jammeh’s surrogates are still working together, and we the Gambia are sitting on a keg of gunpowder that can explode at any time. Jammeh is still pushing his surrogates, and they are waiting for a specific time to react,” Sanyang told The Voice in an interview on Thursday.
He alleged that Jammeh caused all the confusion and the infringement as he opened doors for foreign troops to base in the country out of his interest.
He hinted that Jammeh had left a footprint across all the administrations in The Gambia as he was self-empowered and emboldened himself against the whole country, which gave him the power to amend the 1997 constitution several times to back his fraudulent actions.
The Ex-Soldier pointed out that during the fall of Jammeh, many in the army, police, and immigration went back to Casamance, adding that even President Barrow knew that Jammeh’ssurrogates were still in the Army.
He alleged that Jammeh had brought a lot of Casamance forces to assist him in his farm at Kanilai. This, he said, had opened the gate for many Senegalese soldiers to find their way to stay in the Foni’s and other parts of the country despite the regime change.
“We still have Gambian soldiers staying in Kanilai at Jammeh’sresidence, even we still have Senegalese soldiers based within the west coast. Jammeh empowered the Cassamace family rebellion and Senegalese forces know about this but one person should not cause an invasion of our country.
“This is the problem, and Gambians have to see the truth. Jammeh invaded our country but we the security forces know each other,” Sanyang asserted.
He, therefore, urged the President to recognize the effort of the Gambians and reform the army together with the entire sister institutions.
