The Police Commissioner for the North Bank Region has renewed the Gambia Police Force’s commitment to the protection of lives and properties as enshrined in the constitution of The Gambia.

Commissioner Ansumana Kinteh assured them of GPF commitment recently during a daylong Community Bantabafocused on Peace and Security organized by Action Aid International The Gambia Juffureh Office held in Kerewan.

Commissioner Kinteh nonetheless hailed the officers on duty at Ngain Sanjal Police Station for demonstrating their constitutional roles during a mob attack at the station by youths of the area over the detained accused at the outskirts of the village for the disappearance of someone’s manhood sometimes back.

Reflecting on the incident, in brief, he said the officers escorted the victim to Ngain Sanjal Minor Health Centre for examination but discovered that his manhood was intact. Noting that it was the aftermath of their return from the health centre the youth stormed the police station demanding the alleged accused.

The police commissioner claimed that it all happened as a result of misinformation surrounding the alleged disappearance of the manhood “which investigation and medical examination proved that all the information going around was baseless and with no proof evidence.

However, he said that a police rapid response team was dispatched to the scene to calm down the situation though it involved massive arrests of some youths who wanted to take law into their hands.

Meanwhile, he said the establishment of Ngain Sanjal Police Station is part of the government’s commitment to ensure decentralization of security services.

Commissioner Kinteh, therefore, urged the youth and institutions to be more proactive and vigilant and not to put the law into their own hands as it is not acceptable while thanking the community of Ngain Sanjal for the strong partners with the police over the past 20 years in strengthening peace and security.

Chief Alpha Mariam Khan of Jokadou reiterated the need for youths to develop positive support and collaboration with security to promote peace and security.

He attested that the community Bantaba enabled youth and women to learn more about the operations of various security forces toward the realization of sustainable peace and security.
