A certain Momodou Yassin Sowe was dragged to the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday on suspicion of stealing an umbrella worth D1200.
Prosecutors accused Sowe of stealing the umbrella of one Aminata Sillah at the Brikama car park in Serekunda.
According to the prosecution, the incident happened in June of this year but when the charge was read out to the accused, he denied culpability, saying he never set an eye on the umbrella in question.
The prosecution then applied for an adjournment to enable it to secure witnesses for a full trial and this was unopposed by the magistrate.
The suspect was subsequently granted D10,000 court bail and must provide one surety as a bail requirement.
The case was presided over by Magistrate Thomas Touray and the Inspector General of Police was represented by Inspector Keita.
The hearing begins on August,6th.
